Why
do you call this a "Silver Age" Legion Website?
Comic book history is
divided into various eras or "ages". The
Golden Age is attributed to the advent of
super-heroes, beginning with Siegel & Shuster's
Superman in 1938. The Silver Age of Superman began
when Mort Weisinger became sole editor of the
Superman line in 1958 and began unifying the Superman
family of titles. (Coincidentally, the Man of Steel
celebrated his 25th - silver
- anniversary during the peak of the Silver Age in
1963).
The Legion of
Super-Heroes was the first new group of characters
introduced in this new age of Superman comics, and
Weisinger interwove them through each of his titles.
When Weisinger quit DC in 1970, the Legion as a
feature left with him - cancelled by editorial
director, Carmine Infantino, who wasn't prepared to
put in the work Mort had into running the entire line
and so divided the titles up among other editors.
The Legion was
restarted later under a new editor but was never the
same, being rife with character personality changes,
costume re-designs, and a plethora of writing and
editing mistakes. The franchise has been rebooted
many times over the decades, each new version having
its own "take" on the original concept, but
for all these, there remains only one original
Legion. The Silver Age Legion is a reality unto
itself, with a self-realized adult Legion
"ending" that is completely unaffected by
Bronze Age continuity errors and the so-called
"Crisis on Infinite Earths".
Why
can't I find Wildfire/Tyroc/Dawnstar/et al on your site?
As they are not
members of the original Legion of Super-Heroes they
are not featured on our site. They joined a version
of the Legion chronicled during the Bronze Age of
comics. There are other fan-sites on the web that
contain information on these and other post-Silver
Age characters.
Will
you ever expand your website beyond the Silver Age to
include later lore?
Eventually, we may
have a small section on the Bronze Age version of the
Legion, but only to serve as a means of contrasting
the two realities.
When
did your website first launch?
Our Silver Age Legion
of Super-Heroes website went up on March 18th, 2001.
It has moved twice since then and greatly expanded in
size and content with much more on the way, and we
have plans to eventually encompass the entire line of
Superman Family titles and characters.
Why
does your site have so many pages that are still under
construction?
What started out as a
simple website address move quickly snowballed into a
major revamp of the entire site. Not only are we
adding hundreds of pictures more, but we are
replacing all the previous images with better scans.
Please be patient with us as we strive to bring you a
bigger and better Legion website than ever before!
Can
I download pictures or animations from your website?
If it is just a few
of your favorite pics for private use you are welcome
to do so. We do ask, however, that you do not take
images or words from this site to use in another
website. As you can guess, it takes a great deal of
time and work to select, scan, and digitally prepare
(and sometimes animate) these pictures and we hope
you'll respect our efforts. If you do use a picture
on your site, please provide a link refering to this
site as the source of the images and/or text. Also,
do not draw upon the image directly from our site,
but save it on your own server.
Can I put a link
to your site on my webpage?
You are more than
welcome to do so. If you like, you may copy and use
the banner below to use as an image link for your
site.
I am an
artist/web designer. Would you be able to hire me to work
on your animated movies/website?
We are always
flattered by such offers but this is a non-profit
site created by just the two of us in our spare time.
Why don't you
have your email address up anywhere on your site?
Given the amount of
mail we received in the past, we thought that it
would be more efficient to communicate with other
Legion fans via a message board.
When
is your next animated Legion trailer coming out, and what
story will you do?
Right now all our
spare time is put into completing the website. We do
plan to produce more animated trailers in the future,
and we've got several great stories in mind as
candidates for the animation treatment.
What
program do you use to make your animated trailers?
We use several
different programs but the procedure is too
complicated to go into here. We are planning on
writing a detailed essay on the process in the
future.
Who
made this website?
We are Jo &
Terri-Anne Sanning, a husband and wife duo located in
Canada who enjoy the Legion of Super-Heroes and other
Silver Age Superman Family comics! Visit us on our message board where we go
by the names of Legion Lad and Legion Lass. :) :)
