It gave him the ability to change the color of anything at will." - Adventure Comics No. 365 (Feb. 1968) "Origins and Powers of the Legion of Super-Heroes" First Appearance: Adventure Comics No. 342 (written by Edmond Hamilton, drawn by Curt Swan) Comments: The character of Color Kid was suggested by reader Jeff Greenberg (Adventure Comics No. 309 "The Legion Outpost"). Color Kid can change the color of any person or object. He projects rays of colored light through his fingers - each finger able to project a different color (Adventure Comics No. 342). He can make his colors luminous (351). His color-changing power affects Kryptonite uniquely: Due to the unstable nature of the element, it changes to a different isotope when a relatively simple thing like its color is altered (Adventure Comics No. 354 "The Legion Outpost"). Color Kid was therefore able to change the green-K cloud surrounding Earth to blue kryptonite, thus rendering it harmless (accept to Bizarros). His color-changing rays can penetrate super-beings, proven by the way that he changed the Green-K capsules inside Superboy and Supergirl's heads to blue-K. Therefore, he can also change objects he cannot see visually, being able to detect the presence of specific colors mentally (Adventure Comics No. 351). Limitations and Weaknesses: While he can change the color and effects of kryptonite, he cannot make any other object into kryptonite, only seem to glow like it (Adventure Comics No. 351). He cannot alter all existing kryptonite from green to blue; it would completely exhaust his power (354 "The Legion Outpost"). Physical Description: Ulu has a bright, open face. His jet black hair is highlighted by two streaks of white that end in tuffs on the sides of his head. Personality: Ulu is quick thinking and clever at solving problems. He is an upbeat and cheerful person (Adventure Comics No. 351). Skills: Ulu possesses knowledge of astro-physics (Adventure Comics No. 351, 365 "Origins and Powers of the Legion of Super-Heroes"). He is also good at hand-to-hand combat (374). Interests: None known Previous Occupations: Ulu worked as an assistant to a scientist doing experiments in extra-dimensional physics (Adventure Comics No. 351, 365 "Origins and Powers of the Legion of Super-Heroes") Nicknames: None Relationships: Ulu gets along well with all his teammates, and former Sub members Star Boy and Dream Girl. Known Relatives: None Application: In 2966, Color Kid tried out for membership in the Legion of Super-Heroes but then-leader Brainiac 5 deemed his power "unusual... but not great enough for the Legion" and he was rejected (Adventure Comics No. 342). Induction (Subs): After Brainiac 5 suggested that Color Kid try the Substitute Heroes, who are doing "fine work", he did just that and was immediately accepted into the team that has been a Reserve branch of the Legion since 2964 (Adventure Comics No. 342). Positions Held: None Aliases Used: None Career Highlights: Adventure Comics No. 351 (Dec. 1966) "The Forgotten Legion"
